May Notes
Hello Buffalo Art Guilders,
We have an upcoming meeting next Monday, May 19th, at 7PM at the Buffalo Municipal Airport. We have a couple of things due!
Please plan to bring your completed work fully ready to hang.
Our group project is "Sunsets" and will start its journey at MidCountry Bank. We still need a liaison to assist with the bank as Gale Syverson can no longer help. If no one steps forward, then I am asking a small group to please come forward to assist for the day, which will be decided within a week.
We also need nature art—this is for our new venue, OutDo Work. They have a large area in which to display art, so plan to bring along favorites of this as well. These can be large, too, as they have some large walls for placement. I will collect this art and am hoping to have some of you assist with drop off at OutDo. I need to go back over my notes, but I think they want to do all the hanging, we will just drop off. Just in case, I would like to have two others with me in case we are helping to hang. I am emailing them after this to set up a date and time. I would really like to make a good impression and know that this will go smoothly!
We are going to have a booth at The Great Outdoor Fair on June 28th at Sturges Park. Those of you who are paid members are invited to show artwork at the booth, business cards, etc. We are promoting the Guild, working on membership. Artwork will not be sold that day, but we sure can put people in touch with the artists directly for that possibility. I would like to have a make and take, but that also means we need people to man the booth for the day. Please let me know if you are interested.
We also will have a booth area nearby where we will be face painting, too! Double promotion!! Those of you who are able and interested in helping with that task, Naomi Binsfeld and myself will be there, but could use more. It isn't hard, and we have simple tips and tricks to help. I would like to have only a small number of designs to choose from, to keep it simple and lines moving quickly. Please let me know if you can help with this as well. It's happening rain or shine, moving indoors if inclement weather.
As we speak, Adam Leiferman from the Community Center and I are texting back and forth about the new space at the PenRad building. Get this!!! He says he has a new location for the art guild with more space and a SINK IN THE ROOM! I am hoping it will be a laundry sink or a big stainless steel one...He also just applied for a grant to cover art supplies--indoor/outdoor easels, sewing machines, pottery stuff, and more! Wowza! He is definitely going to need our help—they are over budget on many of the construction items like elevator, parking lot, bathrooms, etc. In order for us to have this space rent free or low cost, helping with special events, pledge drives, etc. will be on the docket, as well as teaching classes that are low cost or free for the community. I have mentioned this before, and I am teaching a class tonight at the community center for free in name of the Buffalo Art Guild. We will need more of you to join in. Some of you have given me some ideas, but we will need more, and I am not the only teacher. Please help me to keep this amazing gift from the city! We don't want to lose this opportunity.
We are getting closer to finishing the Buffalo project too, for Four Seasons Optical. We have been wanting to keep it under wraps and will do a big reveal when it is finished, but Dr. Sealock is so pleased, he has asked us to do an outdoor mural as well on his new building in Watertown. So, anyone up for that? Please get in touch with me to start figuring out when we can start!
Thanks so much, and enjoy all the spring inspiration around us—the colors are incredible morning and night, with the golden light on the new spring leaves emerging, beautiful floral colors, and my favorite, the new willow shoots on the weeping willows. That chartreuse is AMAZING!
