Mural Painting Workshop
Happy October!
This month brings new art, new ideas, and great member connections. We’re excited to gather, share, and keep our creative community thriving.
September Meeting Recap
We started our meeting with some motivational material for our annual group artist-inspired project, which we will bring and show at our October 19 meeting. This year we are inspired by two very different artists. Dan Rieder gave a presentation and shared printed material from the western artist, Charles Russell.
A couple links to start you on your Charles Russell research:
For those inspired by the written word, Melissa Williamson-Herren shared three quotes from the poet Rumi:
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
“Maybe you are searching among the branches for what only appears in the roots.”
“There is a morning inside you waiting to burst open into light.”

We wrapped up the meeting with a group brainstorming session to help the mural committee kick‑start ideas for the Buffalo Food Shelf outdoor mural proposal. Members shared a wide range of thoughts, and now the committee will sift through everything and begin shaping a vision.
BAG Workshop Series Update
September’s Mural Painting workshop, led by artist LeAnna Wurzer, was a full afternoon of laughing, painting, and connecting with new artists. Together we created three panels that will form a triptych and be donated to the Buffalo Area Community Center.
Our first October workshop, Horsehair Raku Fired Pottery, led by member Mae Spencer, is already underway. Her October 3 session was a success, and the series continues with two more Saturday sessions on October 10 and October 17.
Artist Stephanie Etzel will be leading another October workshop, Beginning Mosaic Pavers, on October 10 and 11. We’re happy to say this workshop has a full roster of participants.
October Meeting
October is Show & Share time for our group project! On Monday, October 19, bring your Charles Russell‑ or Rumi‑inspired artwork, or any landscape or animal pieces you’d like considered for our November venue switchouts. Doors open at 6pm, and we’ll wrap up at 7:45.
We’ll snap quick photos of each piece so venues can choose their favorites. Please be ready to fill out basic details for each artwork: title, size, medium, artist name and email, and price. If your piece is selected for display, we’ll coordinate November drop‑off and pick up dates for each venue.
Bring your art, share its story, and let’s make it an inspiring night together.
