April Notes

Hi Folks!

Our next meeting is on April 20th and we are getting “social!” Please join us at La Catrina, 1006 Commercial Drive #A in Buffalo. It’s just off Hwy 25, near-ish to the Chipotle, and near our painted buffalo we designed at Four Seasons Eyecare. They are aware that we will have (my guess) about 10-15 people, starting at 6:30. Bring your hungry selves, and if you have any art to share, bring that, too! Great food, great company, and hopefully lots of stories, art-related (or not!)

We are still anxiously awaiting hearing if we got the grant from CMAB. No word yet.

We are still anxiously awaiting the moment we get to “move” into the BACC. I’m told in May, but no actual date is set yet.

If you were at the last meeting or read the last Guild Journal you know we are working on artwork related to trees. Anything goes, as long as it involves trees. It will be due at our May meeting, where we will be back at the airport and will do a show and share of all the art. We will collect that night for our venues, too, so along with trees, any artwork you have available to rotate around the venues is much appreciated. They all really love nature, landscapes, and animals/birds.

You also have been receiving email regarding our CBS Sun project. All the info you need is in there, so I hope you all have seen it and are working hard on “Sun” art. That artwork will be due in June, where we will photograph it and then it will be turned into a digital format to be emailed to CBS. I started a painted one, using my Catalyst wedge almost like a palette knife—interesting so far, but far from done! Any questions, reach out to either me, artfulwhimsiesbytamra@gmail.com or Sarah or John Hoppe. sjghoppe@gmail.com or jhoppe99@gmail.com.

At our last board meeting we made the final decision to have me step down as Chair as of June 1st. This is a hard stop. I have said many times that I was going to step down and it hasn’t happened yet. This time it is true and will be fulfilled.

We will be in a great position to have someone else lead us, with a new facility at our fingertips, new branding, a new website, and a tremendous board of directors behind you. This does mean we need new leadership—please consider throwing your hat in the ring. I would very much like to see the Guild grow and thrive!

If you have questions about the position or any responsibilities, feel free to reach out to me or anyone on our board. We are happy to answer them.

I hope you are finding creative outlets now that the snow and icy roads are long past. I just finished teaching a great needle-felting class at Artistic Me in Buffalo, and we are in talks of doing a class opportunity for our guild there doing fused glass. Stay tuned!

As Always,
Tamra
