July News

Happy July, everyone!

Summer is in full swing, and Buffalo Art Guild is offering community events and opportunities for artists of every experience level. Whether you’re just starting out or have been creating for years, there’s something here for you.

July Member Picnic — July 20

Our annual member picnic is almost here! We’ll gather at Gayle Kubista’s home (4535 Farmington Ave SE, Delano) with a potluck starting at 6pm, a little earlier than our usual meeting time.

Gayle sent a detailed email with directions, parking info, and her helpful aerial map. If you missed it, everything is also on our event calendar.

Please RSVP to Gayle at grkubista@gmail.com and let her know what tasty dish you’ll bring.

May Meeting Recap — CBS Sunday Morning Sun Art

Our May meeting, our first at the Buffalo Area Community Center, was a bright one — literally! Members shared their sun‑themed artwork for submission to CBS Sunday Morning, and the creativity on display was inspiring.

Dan Averbeck photographed each piece during the meeting to prepare our submission, and Sarah Hoppe followed up with a phone interview with Mike Gesellchen, editor of The Drummer. Thanks to her outreach, the Guild received some wonderful local press promotion. A big thank‑you to everyone who contributed their art and energy to this project.

CMAB Project Grant Workshop Series — Summer Kickoff!

We kicked off our workshop series on July 2 with member Tamra Kowalski leading the Delano 4th of July Celebration Street Art Fest. The chalk art was bright, joyful, and full of personality — a perfect start to the season. Check out some examples at the top of this newsletter.

Coming up next:
Window Display Techniques — August, led by artist Emily Victory
Mural Painting — September, led by muralist LeAnna Wurzer

These workshops are free, taught by artists who specialize in their craft, and open to all skill levels. Class sizes are limited, so be sure to sign up early or share with someone who might love to join. Details are on our event calendar.

Mural Opportunity — Calling Interested Artists!

The Buffalo Food Shelf reached out to see if BAG would be interested in creating a mural on an exterior wall of their building. If you love painting big, bold work — or want to try something new — we’d love to hear from you.

Once we know who’s interested, our board can put together a concept and submit it for their review. Let us know by emailing me at shari.l.zimm@gmail.com if you’d like to be part of the conversation.

Thanks for being part of BAG — your creativity and enthusiasm make our community shine. We’re excited for everything ahead this summer.

Warmly,
Shari Zimmermann
